Leadership development for new leaders and groups of leaders (senior leaders, team leaders, WSLs, ASLs)
Embarking on a new leadership role can be exciting and daunting. Leadership development is essential for new leaders to build the skills and confidence needed to navigate your new roles.
Development programmes foster a deeper understanding of what you bring to your leadership role, different leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution, ensuring you can lead diverse teams and create a collaborative culture where equitable outcomes for ākonga can be achieved.
-
Individual coaching or mentoring for leaders or kaiako
Coaching and mentoring provide invaluable personalised support for leaders and kaiako to enhance your effectiveness and growth. Individual or group sessions can offer deeper insights into your strengths, challenges, and leadership or teaching styles.
Coaching offers a partnership to explore self-awareness in shifting your thoughts and behaviour to maximise your personal and professional potential. Coaching provides space to explore new perspectives to bring about change.
Mentoring can provide growth in specific areas of expertise which are essential to your leadership or kaiako role. This tailored approach allows for focused exploration of areas relevant to your context, such as communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, leading teams, building strong relationships with ākonga, emotional intelligence and the art of courageous conversations.
-
eDISC profiling for understanding individual and team behaviours
eDISC profiling is a powerful tool for leaders who want to further develop an understanding of their leadership behaviours and how to best work with others.
The profiling reports can provide self-awareness, an understanding of your strengths and areas of growth, and they can inform your goal setting. It provides you with valuable insights into how you can better communicate with and lead others. It is also an excellent tool for understanding team dynamics and providing guidance on how a team can work more effectively together.
-
Professional Growth Cycle (PGC) support for Senior Leaders
As a senior leader, external coaching adds value to your Professional Growth Cycle by providing a confidential space to explore your role's successes and challenges, deepen your understanding of leadership, and gain support in creating tailored action plans to achieve your goals.
Termly sessions can provide support for goal setting, action plan implementation, and 360 leadership reviews. A summary report for Principals and Boards of Trustees is provided at the completion of the PGC cycle.
-
PGC support for Principals, including 360 reviews
The tumuaki Professional Growth Cycle PLG is your opportunity to meet termly with other principles to reflect on the successes and challenges of your role, your understanding of leadership and find support in designing specific action plans to achieve your goals in a confidential environment.
Support is provided to design individual leadership goals at the beginning of the cycle and a summary report of the PGC cycle is provided at the PGC conclusion for Boards of Trustees.
Tumuaki are also encouraged to engage in a 360 review every 4-5 years to gather the voices of key stakeholders. This process provides rich feedback on your leadership role and the needs of your community.

Building strong teams
If you are forming a new team or leading a team which has experienced a number of changes, this PLD will support you to bring a diverse group of individuals/kaimahi together to form an effective team who share a common purpose and can achieve desirable outcomes.
Forming new teams requires an understanding of how to lead effectively in a climate of change; why individuals/kaimahi resist change and how to support them effectively; how high functioning teams are formed and your role as a leader; and how to use coaching and mentoring tools to grow others.
-
Courageous conversations workshops
As a leader, the ability to have courageous conversations is crucial for building relational trust and a positive culture among kaimahi.
For many reasons, most leaders find this aspect of leadership challenging.
This workshop provides an understanding of the key reasons of why we need to have courageous conversations, and offer opportunities to practise strategies and frameworks appropriate in Aotearoa, to develop your confidence in having successful conversations.
-
Development of coaching and mentoring skills for leaders/mentors
Developing coaching or mentoring skills for leaders and kaimahi within an educational setting offers numerous benefits, both for the individuals involved and for the kura as a whole.
When kaimahi are trained to coach or mentor their colleagues, they become more adept at providing constructive feedback, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and encouraging personal and professional growth. This creates a supportive environment where knowledge and expertise are shared, leading to improved collaboration, enhanced problem-solving, and greater innovation across teams.
Additionally, kaimahi who engage in coaching or mentoring develop valuable leadership skills, such as active listening, empathy, and the ability to motivate others.
Ultimately, fostering a coaching and mentoring culture helps create a more dynamic, productive, and positive workplace where kaimahi are supported to grow their practice.
This PLD provides an understanding of effective coaching and mentoring skills and opportunities to practise these skills in contexts relevant to kaimahi.
